Although the risk of MRSA as posed to athletes is high, wrestlers are at an even higher risk. High school wrestlers are at a high risk for MRSA due to direct contact with the mats. For those who attend tournments, their risk of contracting MRSA increases 16 fold. Health officials are urging all schools to practice precautions in order to prevent further spread of MRSA and other skin infections, such as pimples and boils.
